Let's Talk Neighbourhood Health
What is Neighbourhood Health?
Put simply, the idea is to make local health and care services
work better together, rather than patients having to navigate lots of
separate organisations.
This could involve GP practices working more closely with
community health teams, hospitals, mental health services, social care, public
health, pharmacies, voluntary organisations and other local services.
The aim is to provide more joined-up support around what people
actually need in their local community.
For example, if someone has several health or social needs, they
may currently have to deal with a number of different services which do not
always communicate as well as they could. Neighbourhood Health is about looking
at how those services could work together more effectively and, where possible,
provide support closer to home.
Why is your input important?
As patients, you see local services from a
different perspective to the people who plan and provide them.
You know what works well, but you may also have experienced
situations where services feel difficult to access, confusing or disconnected.
NHS Devon wants to hear about those experiences and,
importantly, what you think could be done differently.
The feedback gathered through this work will help influence the
priorities for local Neighbourhood Health teams across Devon. This is therefore
a useful opportunity to have a say while these plans are still developing.
How can you get involved?
There are several ways to take part:
1. Complete the Neighbourhood Health Survey
The survey is open to patients, members of the public, PPG
members and health and care staff. Please feel free to complete it and share it
with other people who may be interested.

2. Attend a Neighbourhood Health workshop
NHS Devon is holding engagement days in Exeter, Barnstaple,
Paignton, Plymouth and Tavistock.
Register your interest to attend a workshop
There will be an afternoon workshop for patients and
members of the public, so please feel free to let friends, family members
or local community groups know about the opportunity.
Please help us spread the word
We would particularly like to hear from people who do not always
get involved in NHS consultations or whose voices may be less frequently heard.
If you know individuals, community organisations or groups who
might have valuable experiences to share, please pass this information on to
them.
You don't need any specialist knowledge of the NHS to take part.
It is people's everyday experiences of using local services that are
important.
